Intern/Co-op - HES&S Environmental (Fall 2027)
About the role
Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) offers internship and co‑op opportunities to high‑performing college students. Environmental interns/co‑ops support the company’s Refining, Midstream Crude Oil & Products Logistics, and Midstream Natural Gas & Natural Gas Liquids Services businesses. Interns work side‑by‑side with experienced professionals, contributing to safety, environmental stewardship, inclusion, collaboration, and excellence.
Responsibilities
- Interpret and develop company environmental policies and guidelines; create methods and procedures to ensure conformance.
- Provide guidance and technical assistance for program organization, budgeting, compliance monitoring, and reporting.
- Design or review engineering designs and cost estimates for environmental equipment/systems; determine specifications and recommend equipment.
- Identify and investigate environmental problems, determine causes, recommend preventative actions, and communicate findings to senior management.
- Monitor environmental legislation, regulatory actions, and standards; conduct impact assessments, submit reports, and obtain permits.
- Develop environmental manuals, training materials, and programs; inform employees of policies and conduct training sessions.
Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Science.
- Concurrent enrollment in a Bachelor’s program for the duration of the internship.
- Strong academic performance.
- Available to work on‑site 40 hours per week.
- Ability to safely ascend/descend multiple flights of stairs or ladders and lift or carry items up to 50 lb.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for work‑related travel.
- Authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.
- Availability for multiple work terms is preferred.
Pay
Hourly rate: $24.09 – $43.23 per hour.
