Intern/Co-op - HES&S Environmental (Fall 2027)

Overview

Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) offers internship and co‑op opportunities to high‑performing college students who want meaningful hands‑on experiences in their fields of study. Environmental interns/co‑ops support all areas of the business, including Refining; Midstream Crude Oil & Products Logistics; and Midstream Natural Gas & Natural Gas Liquids Services. Interns work side‑by‑side with experienced professionals as contributing members of diverse work teams.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and/or develop company environmental policies and guidelines; develop methods and procedures for implementation and conformance.
• Provide guidance and technical assistance in organizing and establishing programs and procedures, including budget inputs, and monitor compliance with policies.
• Design and/or review engineering designs and cost estimates for environmental equipment/systems; determine specifications and recommend equipment.
• Identify and investigate current and developing environmental problems, determine causes, initiate preventive steps, and communicate recommendations to senior management.
• Stay current on environmental legislation, regulatory actions, and international standards; assist with legislative and regulatory impact assessments, submit required reports, and obtain permits.
• Develop environmental information, manuals, training material, and programs; inform employees of policies and conduct training sessions.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Science.
• Concurrent enrollment in a Bachelor’s program for the duration of the internship.
• Strong academic performance.
• Available to work on‑site 40 hours per week.
• Ability to safely ascend/descend multiple flights of stairs or ladders and lift or carry items up to 50 lb.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for work‑related travel.
• Authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.
• Availability for multiple work terms is preferred.

Pay

Hourly rate ranges from $24.09 to $43.23.
