About the Role
WIAT-TV in Birmingham, Alabama offers unpaid internships for fall, spring, and summer semesters to students currently enrolled in institutions of higher learning who must be receiving college credit. Interns will gain hands-on experience in various phases of a television station’s day-to-day operations, supplementing their academic curriculum.

- Sales / Marketing (Account Executive, Sales Administration, Digital Sales)
- Human Resource
- News (Producer, Reporter, Photographer, Editor)
- Digital Media (Writing for web and social media)
- Meteorology
- Sports (Producer, Photographer, Reporter)
- Production (Newscast Director, Audio/Camera operator)
- Promotions / Graphics (Commercial Producer, Video Editing)
Details
- Internship schedules will be based on requirements from your college or university.
- Interns will be well-supervised and participate in a meaningful learning experience.
- Internships for semester credit start in September (fall), January (spring), and May (summer). Duration is between 12-15 weeks.
- The internship is unpaid.
- Interns are responsible for their own transportation.
Requirements
- Entering juniors and seniors studying broadcast journalism, video production, marketing, human resources, or other communication degrees.
- Internships must be for school credit.
- Provide a cover letter including:
- The type of internship/position/department you seek.
- The semester you’re applying for.
- The job you hope to be hired for after graduation.
- Why you are interested in WIAT-TV / Alabama's 42.
- Why you should be chosen as an intern.
- Provide a letter from your Professor/Advisor certifying you are a junior or senior and will receive academic credit. Email the letter to internship@alabamas42.com.
- A collaborative worker with a willingness to learn.
- Must abide by all safety rules and procedures of the company.
- Willing to work mornings, evenings, and/or weekends, with respect for your college course schedule.
