Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is seeking an Engineering Intern to join our Building & Construction team in El Paso, TX. This internship offers hands-on training, mentorship, and opportunities to network with industry experts while gaining valuable insights and skills in your field of study. Intertek’s Building and Construction division delivers innovative project and product solutions across architecture, engineering, and construction disciplines. Our services include assurance, testing, inspection, and consulting to ensure reliability, safety, and performance for new developments, existing assets, and facilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform testing, project-specific observations, and site assessments under direct supervision or from detailed procedures.
• Operate testing equipment (e.g., soil, concrete) and assess data through reporting.
• Work with drawings, specifications, and diagrams to observe site activities and perform tasks.
• Make detailed observations and provide limited interpretation of results.
• Maintain documentation and data from test results.
• Communicate effectively with clients and project teams.
• Assist in classifying soil samples and performing geotechnical laboratory testing.
• Prepare work orders for construction material testing.
• Provide back-up support for administrative staff in other departments.
• Perform data entry and maintenance in company systems.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering or Construction Management degree program at an accredited university.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record.
• Ability to work off-shifts and overtime.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read and understand work plans.
• Ability to lift, move, push, or pull 30–50 pounds frequently; occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and discriminate sounds.
• Ability to kneel, squat, walk, and stand for long periods.
• Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold).
• Ability to climb occasionally.
