Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs tasks in accordance with instructions, applicable technical data, manuals, and directives.
  • Selects and works with aircraft structural repair materials such as metals, fasteners, and common hardware.
  • Removes, reinstalls, repairs, fabricates, or replaces defective parts on all components.
  • Ensures that all aircraft parts/components received for repair are properly documented by a valid repair order, ensuring repaired, serviceable, or unserviceable parts are properly tagged/identified, turned in, and/or disposed of as required.
  • Manufactures aircraft structural parts, components, and assemblies using identical parts, drawings and templates in accordance with recommended procedures and/or verbal instruction.
  • Evaluates components and documents any discrepancies to identify methods of repair and/or replacement.
  • Identifies and orders necessary parts, materials, and tooling requirements.
  • Performs structural repair maintenance on related maintenance support equipment such as maintenance stands and GSE equipment.
  • Complies with and follows established standards of workmanship, safety, quality, and production.
  • Uses technical data, maintenance instructions, MRC's, drawings, sketches, and other related maintenance manuals as required in conjunction with and as related to aircraft structural maintenance.
  • Works with and repairs plastic components, and performs fiberglass repair.
  • Fabricates aircraft (metal) tube assemblies as required.
  • Uses, inspects, and maintains common metalworking tools and equipment.
  • Performs aircraft preservation/depreservation as required.
  • Assists in performing weight and balance as required.
  • May be required to perform collateral duty inspection assignments.
  • Completes and/or assists in the completion of applicable maintenance forms as required.
  • Operates ground support equipment as required.
  • Required to be an Aircraft Handler and brake rider certified.
  • May be required to be Plane Captain certified and perform pre-flight/post-flight/turnaround/daily inspections and servicing when required.
  • Performs aircraft jacking and hoisting operations as required.
  • Identifies and treats corrosion.
  • Utilizes manufacturers' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, Maintenance Engineering Directives, Maintenance Requirement Cards, Technical Directives, schematics, drawings, blueprints, charts, and other applicable data/publications to replace, repair, test, modify, and rebuild aircraft components.
  • May be required to be NDI qualified/certified for magnetic particle, dye penetrate, or eddy current inspection operations.
  • Complies with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, and Tool Control Programs.
  • Complies with all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations as applicable to the contract, facilities, and job assignment.
  • Provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction as required for the training of personnel in the same or lesser grade classifications.
  • Ensures compliance with all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations, such as applicable to the contract, site, and work center.

Qualifications

  • Satisfactory completion of U. S. Armed Forces aircraft structural repair courses or equivalent.
  • F.A.A. Airframe license preferred but not required.
  • Graduation from high school or GED required.
  • Must be able to meet any government/company licensing/qualification requirements for the position.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as an aircraft structural mechanic.
  • Familiarity with aircraft systems, tools, drawings, schematics, and normal safety requirements.
  • Experience in corrosion detection, treatment, and prevention.
