About the Role

Aircraft Mechanics II perform repairs and modifications on aircraft structures and systems of moderate difficulty. This includes maintaining and repairing components such as flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical parts. The role requires applying technical knowledge to diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions, as well as interpreting technical documentation like blueprints and manufacturer manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair, and modify aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty.
  • Maintain and repair aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
  • Apply technical expertise to troubleshoot and resolve moderate to complex mechanical issues.
  • Interpret technical documentation such as blueprints and manufacturer manuals.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, and parts replacement.
  • Perform sheet metal and structural modifications and repairs.
  • Apply basic knowledge of electrical theory and use aircraft-specific tools (e.g., test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes, and shears).
  • Utilize technical publications and receive guidance from supervisors or higher-level technicians as needed.
  • Lead teams through complex aircraft tasks and make entries in aircraft logs and records.
  • Inspect work performed by Mechanic IIs and Is.
  • Provide input for Maintenance Engineering Changes (MEC), Estimated Cost of Damage (ECOD) preparation, and recommend changes to Maintenance Work Orders (MWO).
  • Specialize in disciplines such as sheet metal, electrical work, avionics, or other aircraft systems as required.
  • Use HVLP spray guns and corrosion control tooling.
  • Perform duties on and off aircraft based on specific requirements.
  • Prioritize workloads and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience on the C-130H/J variant aircraft.
  • May require licensure by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
  • CPR qualification is preferred.
  • Training on the proper use, inspection, and wear of personal protective clothing and equipment.
  • Training on the use of communication equipment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with recognizing symptoms of overexposure to chemicals, solvents, and fuels.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands, including working at heights with fall protection devices.
  • Ability to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee, and reach above/below shoulders.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds and carry for short distances.
  • Ability to read dials/gauges, identify small objects, and use hand tools.
  • Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings, and other small scales.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
  • May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklifts, APUs, etc.
  • Ability to work in high heat or extreme cold temperatures for extended periods.
  • May operate in austere COUNS and OCOUNS locations.
  • Ability to wear a full-face or forced-air respirator.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
