About the role

As an interior upholstery technician you will be responsible for the repair, refurbishment and reinstallation of interior upholstery components on world class business aircraft. Tasks include general upholstery on aircraft seats, panels and other interior items, removal and installation of seats, disassembly, cleaning, repair and modifications of components as needed. Job duties vary each day and are designated by the Team Leader in charge of that project.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic to advanced foam build-ups, patterning and sewing of seat parts and other upholstery items
• Perform minor modifications
• Complete daily turnover sheets
• Maintain and repair shop facility, equipment and tooling
• Navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases using basic computer skills
• Maintain cleanliness of shop and surroundings
• Work independently when required
• Communicate effectively (speak, write, read) in English
• Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport (ideal, but not required)
• Experience levels:
  • Tech I: 0-2 years of experience in upholstery (aviation, auto, RV, marine or related field). Limited to no knowledge of the position; requires close supervision.
  • Tech II: 2-4 years of experience. Considerable knowledge of the job; requires general supervision.
  • Tech III: 4-6 years of experience. Full knowledge of the job; limited supervision required; can act as a trainer or mentor.
  • Master Tech: 6+ years of experience in aviation upholstery. Subject matter expert with comprehensive knowledge.
• Self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced environment with specific deadlines and time constraints
• Reliable attendance, including overtime and weekend assignments
• Notify supervisor in advance if unable to work
• Reliable transportation to work daily
• Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines
• Follow all company and safety rules
• Maintain customer-oriented work habits
• Assist in major modification work as needed

Physical Requirements

• Lift up to 50 lbs
• Routine walking, bending, squatting or sitting
• Repetitive physical motion with arms and hands, including grasping, feeling, and finger dexterity
• Stand for long periods of time
• Climb ladders and stairs
• Work in small restricted areas

Mental Requirements

• Understand and implement regulations and guidelines (e.g., OSHA, Hazmat)
• Work professionally with others
• Read and comprehend various documents
• Plan and organize procedures and operations

Supervision

• Work under the supervision of an assigned Team Leader and Interior Management
• May supervise other technicians in some capacity
• Work with minimal supervision when required

Working Conditions

• Majority of work performed in a hangar or shop environment
• Occasional work outside on the ramp
• Varied positions in and around the aircraft

Equipment Used

• Personal hand tools (supplied by the mechanic)
• Electrical power tools (e.g., sewing machines, sanders, saws)
• Computer, copy machine, etc.

Pay

The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $20 - $35. Actual hourly rate varies based on factors including location, experience, and performance. Additional compensation includes a shift differential for alternate shifts, a semi-annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) company match, and employer contribution to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
