About the role

The Interim Assistant Director, Residential Life & First-Year Experience will provide mentorship, programming and overall support for the First Year Experience specifically through the Office of Residential Life, but additionally by partnering with offices across the Division of Student Affairs. With a focus on Residential Life, this position will provide administrative and educational support for student staff in collaboration with the Associate Director of Residential Life.

This role focuses on administrative tasks and direct student mentorship, including support of the residential life student staff (communications, accountability, logistics), and coaching and mediation support for students in conflict. The Asisstant Director will assist in the recruitment, training, supervision, and ongoing development of student staff, and other departmental initiatives as needed. This position plays a strong role in articulating the institutional value of diversity, fostering an equitable and inclusive community, and promoting the health and well-being of individual students.

Responsibilities

  • Mentorship and support for First Year Experience students
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director of Residential Life on administrative tasks and student staff support
  • Support student staff in communications, accountability, and logistics
  • Coach and mediate support for students in conflict
  • Aid in the recruitment, training, supervision, and development of student staff
  • Participate in departmental initiatives as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Sound judgment and ability to manage sensitive situations with discretion
  • Ability to balance multiple responsibilities and prioritize effectively
  • Strong facilitation and training skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication, with special attention to detail and tone

Qualifications

  • One to three years of experience working with teen/college students preferred
  • Student-centered and collaborative approach to work in student affairs
  • Sound judgment and ability to manage sensitive situations with discretion

Shift

Standard administrative hours are 8:30am – 5:00pm. This is an 10-month, 40-hour-per-week, salaried position during the academic year. The schedule will include regular (though limited) evening and weekend hours to support student staff, training, opening/closing periods, and other residential life responsibilities.
