INSURANCE RATE ANALYST
Working Title: Insurance Rate Analyst
About the role
The California Department of Insurance (CDI) is seeking a dynamic Insurance Rate Analyst to study and apply the principles and techniques of insurance ratemaking within the Rate Regulation Branch. This role operates in a fast-paced, hybrid environment and involves working with large databases, conducting data analysis, and compiling data to generate rate component determination (RCD) generic factors and other mandated reports.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze less difficult rate filings containing rates, rating plans, rating systems, manual rules, and policy forms for property and casualty lines of business.
- Work with data from large databases or financial reports to conduct data analysis and compile data for rate component determination (RCD) generic factors.
- Prepare summary reports and provide consultation to other departmental staff on technical issues.
- Communicate with insurers to conduct data calls.
- Perform individual or group projects as assigned by the Bureau Chief.
- Complete other duties as required.
Requirements
- This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code and requires completing a Statement of Economic Interest (Form 700), including Assuming Office filing within 30 days of appointment, annual filings, and Leaving Office filing within 30 days of physical separation.
- Non-compliance with the Conflict of Interest Code requirements may result in voiding of appointment, financial penalties, or enforcement actions.
- Effective July 1, 2025, employees are subject to the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025, which requires a reduction in pay in exchange for monthly hours of PLP 2025 leave credits.
Qualifications
- Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification.
- Individuals who are currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, reinstatement, have list or LEAP eligibility, are in the process of obtaining list eligibility, or have SROA and/or Surplus eligibility may apply.
- Required documents: Resume, degree and/or school transcripts, and completed State Examination/Employment Application (STD Form 678).
Pay
$4,582.00 - $5,205.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable. The salary range does not reflect the reduction in pay due to the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025.
Schedule
- Permanent, full-time position.
