Instrumentation Coordinator - Sterile Processing - Ear and Eye Institute

Job Summary

The Instrumentation Coordinator is responsible for preparing, sterilizing, installing, assembling, and cleaning all clinic or healthcare equipment required for surgeries, examinations, and medical procedures. They ensure that equipment, instruments, and supplies can be reused safely to prevent infections. This role involves coordinating and overseeing daily activities between the Operating Room and Sterile Processing Departments to facilitate efficient case flow, through efficient case cart assembly and decontamination, assembly and sterilization/high level disinfection of all reprocessed surgical inventory.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate efficient case flow by managing daily activities between the Operating Room and Sterile Processing Departments.
• Ensure sterilized, appropriately functioning medical supplies and instrumentation are packaged and delivered aseptically.
• Serve as a clinical liaison between the Operating Rooms and the CSS offsite location to track and allocate sterilized instrumentation across the Enterprise.
• Procure and standardize instrument trays across the Enterprise.
• Utilize 24/7 in multiple reprocessing sites across the Health System, including Ross Heart Hospital, University Hospital, James Cancer Hospital, Same Day Surgery, University Hospital East, and all Ambulatory sites.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or possess the G.E.D.
• At least one year of experience as an instrument processor or Surgical Technologist.
• Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification issued through International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) certification issued through The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) required upon hire, or must obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
