Instrument Technician - UMMC East Bank
Fairview, University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank, has an immediate opening for a Sterile Processing Technician. We provide the Operating Room with the surgical instruments and supplies needed for surgical cases, serving as a resource for physicians, nurses, and medical staff.
About the role
This is a 1.0 FTE (80 hours per two-week pay period) position on evening shift, Monday - Friday 2:30 PM-11:00 PM, with weekend coverage as needed. All hires must complete a 12-week orientation following hire, including a full-time day shift commitment for the first 12 weeks.
Responsibilities
- Decontaminate, clean, process, assemble, sterilize, store, and distribute reusable instruments and medical devices.
- Review and interpret resources to determine the priority of instruments and medical devices required for procedures.
- Inspect, test, assemble, package, and label surgical instruments in preparation for sterilization.
- Ensure instruments are available and ready for site-specific and System CSSD-CPC trays.
- Perform manual decontamination of reusable instruments and equipment following manufacturer instructions and system policies.
- Operate automated and non-automated processing equipment such as instrument washers, sterilizers, biological incubators, and heat sealers.
- Serve as a resource to clinical staff regarding instruments and supplies.
- Adjust care or service approaches to reflect developmental and cultural differences of the population served.
- Maintain knowledge of and comply with all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
- Job expectations may include surgical case cart assembly, intraoperative supply picking, and high-level disinfection of flexible endoscopes and other semi-critical devices.
Requirements
- 6 months of experience in an operating room, medical device reprocessing role, or related role OR completion of an approved Fairview Sterile Processing training program.
- Preferred: Graduate of a Central Service program, Accredited Surgical Technologist program, or Licensed Practical Nurse program.
- Preferred: Two years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician, Surgical Technologist, or in a medical device reprocessing role.
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification.

Pay
An individual's pay rate within the posted range may be determined by skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, the organization prioritizes pay equity and considers internal team equity when making offers. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical. If eligible, a sign-on bonus may be offered based on the approved program at the time of the offer.
