Instrument Technician I

About the Role

Ensures surgical instruments are sterile and ready for physicians prior to operations and medical procedures following ANSI/AMMI guidelines. Maintains and prepares surgical instrument trays for the Operating Room and general Nursing Units according to specifications. Maintains and updates surgical count sheets. Follows proper sterilization, disinfection procedures, and aseptic techniques with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain surgical instrument trays according to specifications.
• Maintain and update surgical count sheets.
• Follow sterilization and disinfection procedures, and aseptic techniques.
• Conduct tests and inspections of products or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
• Determine causes of operating errors and apply effective decision-making to correct errors.
• Perform mathematical calculations related to sterilization processes.
• Utilize knowledge of chemical composition, interactions, and safety procedures for sterilization.

Requirements

• One year of experience in surgical instrument sterilization.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist (CSIS) preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Skills

• Knowledge of materials, assembly processes, and surgical tray assembly.
• Proficiency in quality control methods and sterilization techniques.
• Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, and sterilization procedures.
• Understanding of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Knowledge of chemical composition, structure, properties, and processes.
• Basic computer literacy and keyboarding skills, including data entry and ten-key proficiency.
• Ability to read and comprehend English to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
