Instrument Fitter Journeyman - Various Locations
About the role
An Instrument Fitter plans layout, fabricates, assembles, repairs, and installs instruments, both electronic and pneumatic, including primary piping, tubing, and other instrument needs.
Responsibilities
- Plan layout and installation per instructions or work requirements using drawings, blueprints, sketches, and manuals.
- Measure thread, cuts, and assembles cable tray and cable tray support systems.
- Install tubing and clamps into cable tray systems.
- Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble and install tubing and piping.
- Plan and coordinate daily work with limited supervision.
- Perform other work-related tasks as assigned.
- Utilize hand, hydraulic, and power tools.
- Drill and tap holes in structures and attach brackets, guards, etc. following the assembled drawing.
- Operate man lifts, scissor lifts, overhead cranes, band saws, hose cutting/crimping devices, pressure pumps, and hydraulic pumping units when necessary.
- Inspect and maintain tools.

Qualifications
- Level III: Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related instrumentation experience, NCCER Instrument Fitter journeyman certification
- Level II: Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related instrumentation experience, NCCER Performance Instrument Fitter journeyman verification, other verified experiences or certifications with instrumentation experience
- Level I: Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related instrumentation experience
Requirements
- Read ISO's, Blueprints, P&IDs
- Ability to read and interpret instructions and document, plan, and perform work activities independently
- The degree of job responsibilities and requirements may vary depending on months of experience
- Personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List
- Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights
Physical Demands/Essential Job Functions
- All weather conditions at varying temperatures
- Work at varying elevations
- Will work in windy and dusty environments
- Moderate to high noise levels
- The project site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools
- Able to hear bells, whistles, and alarms
- Required to wear safety-approved body harnesses when working at 4 or above
- Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting
- Able to talk and hear to communicate
- Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
- Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision
