Instrument & Electrical Technician $40/hour and potential 4% yearly bonus Job

Starting at $40/hour with potential 4% yearly bonus. Reports directly to the Alsip Engineering/Maintenance Leader.

About the Role

This position manages a broad spectrum of electrical work, including interpreting electrical diagrams/schematics, utilizing electrical diagnostic equipment, troubleshooting electrical control circuitry and distribution equipment, revisions and design of circuitry, proper switching and isolation of equipment, and knowledge of electrical applications specific to the Alsip site.

Responsibilities

• Perform diversified electrical and electronic instrumentation duties, including preventive maintenance of motors, switchgear, MCCs, Variable Frequency Motor drives, and electrical distribution/power panels (120V AC to 480V 3-phase).
• Maintain lighting and lighting fixtures, including 277V lighting systems.
• Use computer systems for maintenance work requests and purchase requisitioning.
• Operate hand/power tools, test/diagnostic meters, and electronic instrument calibration devices.
• Operate forklifts and/or aerial equipment.
• Perform emergency/unscheduled repairs during production and off-hours, including scheduled maintenance during planned outages.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.
• Communicate with outside vendors/contractors for small capital projects.
• Perform electro/mechanical troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
• Read and interpret equipment manuals, work orders, one-line drawings, electrical/electronic schematics, and related diagrams.
• Apply knowledge of Company, Local, and National Electrical Code (NEC).
• Diagnose problems, replace/repair parts, test, and make adjustments.
• Perform preventive maintenance, update maintenance records, and track equipment history.
• Detect faulty operations, defective materials, and report unusual situations to supervision.
• Maintain clean and orderly work areas while complying with safety regulations.
• Serve as a team member on site teams (e.g., Health and Safety Team).
• Add/change PMs and equipment in SAP.
• Source and purchase instrumentation and electrical parts as needed.
• Support Project Engineers in specifying, sourcing, and startup of electrical/instrumentation systems.
• Assist the Automation Team in resolving DCS (Delta V) instrumentation issues.
• Serve as an on-site certified Illinois UST A/B Operator for Monomer UST instrumentation.
• Update and modify Instrumentation and Electrical Procedures as necessary.
• Comply with HSEQ Policy, regulations, legal/internal requirements, and site-specific rules.
• Review work areas for potential hazards, report near misses, incidents, or accidents to supervision.
• Identify and communicate potential improvements to the management system.
• Participate in HSEQ activities and conduct safety observations/reviews.
• Participate in the maintenance department on-call rotation for off-hour equipment failures.
• Complete assigned Impact items and support AIMS initiatives.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

Maintenance work may require confined space entries, working at elevated heights, using respirators, and working outdoors.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED and completion of a craft apprenticeship, or equivalent education/experience to qualify as an Electrical Qualified person (Certified Electrician).
• 4+ years of manufacturing experience with strong electrical/electronic and industrial skills.
• Highly motivated team player able to work independently.
• Experience with digital/analog computer machine interfacing is a plus.
• Able to lift/move objects up to 50 pounds consistently, with heavier weights occasionally required.
• Able to work from ladders, scaffolding, or powered lifts.
