About the role

Tarleton State University, a distinguished Doctoral National Comprehensive University, invites applications for the position of Instructor of Business Communication in the Department of Marketing and Computer Information Systems in the Dr. Sam Pack College of Business.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver undergraduate Business Communication courses with a 5/5 teaching load, primarily supporting BUSI 3312 (Business Communication), a core course required for all undergraduate business majors.
  • Select instructional materials and design assessments such as exams, quizzes, papers, etc.
  • Afford student performance, provide timely feedback, and evaluate student learning outcomes to inform teaching practices and curriculum improvements.
  • Engage students in active learning, foster critical thinking skills, and provide opportunities for discussion, collaboration, and hands-on learning.
  • Provide academic support and guidance to students through office hours, feedback on assignments, and mentoring.
  • Adhere to university policies, academic integrity standards, and AACSB accreditation requirements related to teaching responsibilities.
  • Incorporate innovative teaching methods, technologies, and pedagogical approaches to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development activities to stay current in the field, improve teaching skills, and explore instructional strategies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, departmental faculty, and university staff to coordinate course offerings, share resources, and contribute to program development and improvement.
  • Participate in institutional service roles, including but not limited to college committees, advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment, and mentoring of new and part-time faculty.

Requirements

  • Earned Master’s degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, Management, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrate ability to teach business communication or related courses.
  • Show evidence of potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching.
  • Show knowledge of business communication principles, including written, oral, and interpersonal communication in professional contexts.
  • Show strong skills in teaching and evaluating writing and presentation intensive coursework, providing meaningful feedback, and integrating applied learning activities.
  • Show proficiency with instructional technologies, including learning management systems such as Canvas LMS and related communication tools.
  • Show ability to effectively manage multiple course sections effectively and maintain consistency in course delivery and assessment.
  • Show ability to incorporate current and emerging technologies, connect course content to real-world applications, and support student career readiness.
  • Show ability to interact with students, staff, and faculty in a professional, collegial, and collaborative manner.

Qualifications

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Experience teaching business communication or related courses.
  • Experience with instructional technologies and learning management systems.
  • Experience with adult learning and student-centered pedagogy.
  • Experience with assessment and evaluation of student learning outcomes.

Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

Schedule

This is a 9-month non-tenure-track position located on Tarleton’s main campus in Stephenville, Texas. Summer appointments are dependent upon need and funding availability. Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work and teaching requirements indicate. May be assigned to teach at various campus locations or through approved instructional modalities, as determined by the institution based on operational needs.
