Instructor Fire Protection Technology (Part Time) 02/2024
This position is located at Houston City College, codenamed Codwell Hall.
Responsibilities
- Teach courses in fire protection technology at various times and locations.
- Evaluate students to measure their progress towards achieving course objectives.
- Keep accurate student records and submit related reports and forms within requested timelines.
- Evaluate and recommend student textbooks and learning materials.
- Use equipment and facilities responsibly and assist the chair with the routine maintenance of instructional laboratories.
- Demonstrate competence and interest in the use of technology in the classroom and willingness to explore new instructional methodologies.
- Work with the Chair/Program Director to take on appropriate academic advising activities as needed by the College and Department.
Requirements
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in industry related to fire protection technology.
- A minimum of one (1) year of college level teaching experience preferred.
- A portfolio of extensive work experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
- A minimum of eight (8) years of experience is required if using experience in lieu of a degree.
- A bachelor’s degree preferred.
- A valid Texas Fire Commission Basic Fire Fighter Certification.
- A valid Texas Fire Commission Intermediate Fire Instructor Certification.
Qualifications
- A minimum of an Associate’s degree in a related field.
- Knowledge and skill in a variety of computer usage and software.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
- Possess good organizational and planning skills.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to students with different academic and socio-economic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment.
- Self-disciplined and able to effectively manage others.
