About the role
The Department of Animal Sciences, part of the Rutgers University School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS), seeks a non-tenure track, calendar-year Instructor of Professional Practice or Assistant Professor of Professional Practice. This position serves as a bridge between academic scholarship and real-world application, focusing on professional development and discipline-based education.
Responsibilities
- Develop and teach courses emphasizing hands-on learning, including those conducted at the university’s farm and through partnerships with equine industry professionals.
- Create and oversee internship and field-based learning opportunities that connect students with real-world equine operations, veterinary practices, and research environments.
- Contribute to student success through advising and career preparation in equine and animal science fields.
- Assist with advising for the undergraduate program and perform other administrative duties that support the department’s academic mission.
Requirements
- A strong background in equine science, animal science, biological science, or veterinary science.
- Demonstrated engagement with stakeholders outside of academia such as equine-assisted therapy centers, breeders, trainers, veterinarians, and extension professionals.
Qualifications
- Doctorate in a relevant field.
- Experience in equine or animal science.
- Ability to teach practical skills and mentor students.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
