Job Summary

About the role

The Eye Institute (TEI) of Drexel University seeks a clinical faculty member to provide clinical education/patient care, including teaching optometry students, residents, and other personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical education to optometry students, residents, and other personnel at TEI or its satellite facilities.
  • Teaches in didactic, laboratory, small group education, and assessments based on the needs of the program.
  • Provides feedback to students verbally during patient care, through Meditrek log entries, and in chief of service and attending grading meetings.
  • Assists the service chief in remedying struggling students as needed.
  • Participates in clinical round tables and educates, mentors, and evaluates primary care and specialty care residents.
  • Engages in scholarly activity and provides service to the University, College, and profession.
  • Participates in the Scholars Program as assigned.
  • Ensures accurate, timely medical record and Meditrek completion, and complies with TEI and Drexel University policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Doctor of Optometry degree.
  • Minimum of 1 year of residency or 4 years of experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited school or college of optometry.
  • Current Pennsylvania license to practice optometry (with therapeutic and glaucoma privileges), or license-eligible.
  • Completion of a one-year or longer residency program in optometry, or a minimum of five years equivalent experience in clinical practice.
  • Eligible for faculty rank and professional staff appointment at TEI and PCO.
  • Maintains clinical privileges consistent with TEI credentialing policies and protocols and adheres to established compliance protocols.

Qualifications

  • Residency.
  • Prior supervisory experience in an optometric setting or at The Eye Institute.
  • Experience as an optometric educator.
  • Strong clinically- and educationally-related technology skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in optometric education and patient care.
  • Demonstrated history of a positive work ethic.
  • FAAO - Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.

Benefits

This clinical faculty appointment allows faculty to participate in the faculty promotion process, consistent with the current non-tenure track expectations.

Pay

The offered salary is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.

Schedule

This is a Full-Time Faculty position classified as Exempt. The schedule is typically full-time, with occasional evening and weekend work required.
