Instructional System Designer (ISD)

About the Role

The United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) Academic Development Branch (EDED) provides direction, guidance, and quality assurance for the design, development, validation, and evaluation of both in-resident and online USAFSAM courses listed on the official USAF Education and Training Course Announcement (ETCA) website, as well as other training products as directed. This role supports the Academic Development Branch (EDED) in graphics, media, and video production for courses and programs within the organization.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Educational Design, or five (5) years of applied experience in Instructional Systems Design (ISD) techniques and related disciplines, including demonstrated experience in at least two of the following:
  • Learning theory, psychology of learning, or educational psychology
  • Instructional design practices
  • Educational assessment
  • Instructional product creation
• Proficiency in current technologies for developing educational materials, including (but not limited to):
  • Adobe Captivate
  • SCORM packaging and delivery
  • Gaming, 3D modeling, virtual reality, and simulation
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Adobe Acrobat
• Ability to critically think, solve problems, and effectively communicate through writing and speech
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• A Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) in place with the contractor’s company, with a copy provided to the Program Manager

Highly Desired Qualifications:

• A master's degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Educational Design, or a related discipline

Responsibilities

• Provide educational expertise in creating multimedia, graphics, or media projects in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Project/Production Managers, and the Production Team
• Recommend instructional platforms, media, development tools, and delivery methods to meet training requirements
• Add, manage, and test online courseware, and provide a comprehensive report with recommendations for training improvements
• Create training plans and conduct or guide the validation phase of the ISD process to ensure course objectives and proficiency levels are met
• Perform administrative tasks, including editing written curriculum and maintaining files and records
• Participate in educationally related activities, such as office continuity design and supporting online/e-learning tasks
• Apply the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate) Instructional System Design model
• Design training materials, including instructional text, audio scripts, and video scripts
• Utilize government-provided software tools as directed by the Technical Advisor
• Attend meetings as requested
• Analyze student feedback from evaluations and surveys to assess courseware effectiveness and provide written recommendations for improvement
• Clarify project requests, coordinate project scope meetings, storyboard projects, and obtain required approvals for final course delivery
• Provide consultation and validation of educational content and delivery throughout multimedia development
• Attend and participate in training and meetings as directed by the course director or technical advisor
