About the Role
At Timpanogos High School, we are looking for a supportive adult to help encourage student punctuality and attendance. This role involves working directly with students to ensure they are where they need to be and on time for class. The Instructional Paraprofessional provides support to the instructional program within assigned classrooms, assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of special needs students in the resource classroom.
Responsibilities
- Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives and IEP goals.
- Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g., medication, tube feeding, colostomy bags).
- Administers tests, homework, and make-up work to support teachers in the classroom.
- Assists in data collection under the direction of the assigned teacher to monitor student progress.
- Assists students with self-care activities (e.g., toileting, washing, changing diapers, eating, dressing, grooming).
- Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments (e.g., reading stories, listening to students read, writing assistance, reinforcing English lessons, spelling practice, computer learning programs).
- Attends job-specific trainings and meetings (e.g., first aid, behavior management).
- Communicates with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel to evaluate progress and implement IEP and/or 504 objectives.
- Demonstrates appropriate role modeling (e.g., conversation, manners, emotional support, listening skills, friendly and engaging attitudes).
- Implements behavioral plans identified in student IEPs under the supervision of the assigned teacher.
- Maintains instructional materials, manual and electronic files/records, and classroom equipment.
- Monitors students in various school environments (e.g., restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
- Performs clerical duties (e.g., screening phone calls, distributing materials, maintaining inventories, processing documents).
- Provides instruction to students in individual and group activities (e.g., academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills) under the supervision of the assigned teacher.
- Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g., accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions).
- Supervises and escorts students to/from classes to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
Requirements
- Age 16 or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must complete mandatory employee training within the first 3 months of employment.
- Proficiency in English is required; Spanish language skills are a plus.
Pay
Hourly rate: Untrained (Lane 5) $15.61, Trained (Lane 6) $16.62. Employees may complete an in-district training to qualify for Lane 6.
Schedule
6 hours per day, non-contract, no benefits.
