About the role

The instructional faculty member is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. They are responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend in any of the schools within Washington Adventist University as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in Maternal Health, Community Health, Pediatrics, Medical/Surgical and other courses needed.
  • Develop curriculum for assigned courses.
  • Evaluate students based on criteria described in course syllabus.
  • Provide clinical instruction and supervision.
  • Demonstrate and foster excellence in teaching and service; values research.
  • Promote Christian values in teaching methods and interaction with students.
  • Provide time for academic advising of students and maintain regular office hours.
  • Aid in departmental assessment of learning outcomes.
  • Aid in University Preview and promotion of department.
  • Aid with departmental meetings and events.
  • Serve on various academic committees as requested.
  • Support the University mission, vision, and values.
  • Keep students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of papers and other work attendance requirements.
  • Provide students with a mid-term progress report per policy.
  • Post and maintain office hours for students.
  • Refer students to the Center for Student Success, as needed and follow up.
  • Participate in the faculty performance appraisal system, including analysis of student attrition and grade distributions.
  • Submit required reports to the appropriate entities.
  • Attend all faculty meetings, General Assemblies, Convocations, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as called by the President, Provost, Dean, or Department Chair.
  • Attend all University commencement ceremonies and departmental events.
  • Become familiar and comply with all university policies and procedures.
  • Engage in the co-curricular activities of the University.
  • Convey University-related information to students in a timely manner as requested by University officials.
  • Complete other work related responsibilities or duties as assigned by the Department Chair, Dean, Provost, or the President or his/her designee.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree or terminal degree in relevant subject is required.
  • Doctoral or terminal degrees preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to various audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to collegiality.
  • Ability to solve problems.
  • Knowledge and use of computer and its applications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word and Excel.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to deal with non-verbal symbolism.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Final salary will be based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Schedule

Compensation Determination: Final salary will be based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. Occasional weekend work is required for graduation and registration exercises.
