About the role

The Instructional Designer II is responsible for creating, updating, and delivering training material for both online and classroom learning. This role involves conceptualizing, planning, designing, and producing specialized multimedia and web programs for our Training and Development department.

Responsibilities

  • Programming:
    • Plan and develop multimedia learning courses for Niagara’s learning management system with the assistance of the training team.
    • Work to meet project deadlines using the department’s development calendar.
    • Report project progress consistent with department project management protocol.
    • Troubleshoot problems with multimedia content developed by less technical members of the Training and Development team.
  • Media Development:
    • Assist with the development of video and audio components for learning assets, including editing raw media using image, audio, or video software.
    • Administer and maintain media repositories for internal department use.
    • Identify opportunities for multimedia technologies to enhance web and classroom-based instruction.
  • Instructional Design/LMS/Training and Development:
    • Assist in curriculum design for compelling training programs, including instructor-led, online, and alternative learning activities.
    • Develop and write content for both traditional and e-learning training materials.
    • Maintain an understanding of Niagara’s LMS system, including its features, limitations, and functional requirements.
    • Serve as the multimedia technology trainer for staff on techniques and best practices for media and graphics software.
    • Design learning solutions targeted at manufacturing employees.
    • Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure accurate content.
    • Evaluate training program results and modify future programs to better meet business needs.
    • Determine the appropriate multimedia format for the target audience.
    • Develop and deliver training materials on company processes, products, and technologies.
    • Stay abreast of new and innovative learning methodologies and theories.
  • Writing/Editing/Document Control:
    • Ensure the accuracy and formatting of generated documents in accordance with company/department standards.
    • Travel to other Niagara facilities to collaborate with curriculum designers, trainers, internal customers, and Subject Matter Experts.
    • Travel to Niagara vendors or customers to support related activities as needed.
    • Manage web content responsibilities, including portal management through SharePoint.
    • Handle newsletters, articles, and other periodic writing duties as assigned.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:
    • Supervise company systems, equipment, and business protocols.
    • Supervise a select team of Super User level contributors in Niagara business processes.
    • Provide leadership to adjacent work teams, such as Technical Training, in the absence of their Manager.
    • Work with and influence individuals throughout the organization without direct authority.
  • General:

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • 2 years of experience in a field or similar manufacturing environment.
    • 2 years of experience in the position.
    • 2 years of experience managing people/projects (may include a combination of work experience and education).
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • 4 years of experience in a field or similar manufacturing environment.
    • 4 years of experience working in the position.
    • 4 years of experience managing people/projects (may include a combination of work experience and education).

Skills

  • Proficiency in adult learning methods and pedagogy.
  • Experience with Articulate 360 Suite, Vyond, Camtasia.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, specifically PowerPoint, including Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Adobe Creative Suite (CS6), specifically InDesign, Flash Professional, Captivate, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier, After Effects, and Acrobat.
  • Comparable word processor, page layout, publishing, and illustration software.
  • Knowledge of the creation and maintenance of wikis.
  • Multimedia skills:
    • Proficient in manipulating and synchronizing audio files for use in e-learning.
    • Experience with and willingness to do voice-over work.
    • Ability to identify and interpret multimedia design needs and develop creative, responsive design concepts.
  • General instructional design concepts, with an understanding of how an LMS functions and its role in deploying e-learning courses.
  • Able to clearly communicate how to perform complex technical tasks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with a proven record of taking initiative.
  • Able to work with moderate supervision.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent oral and written communication skills.

    • Minimum Required: Bachelor's Degree in Education, Instructional Design, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
    • Preferred: Master's Degree in Instructional Design or related fields.

Pay

Salary: $71,314.38 - $103,405.86 per year.
