DSS, Inc. is a leading health information software development and systems integration company, offering services and solutions utilized daily by thousands of clinicians and administrative staff at the VA medical facilities.
About the role
The Instructional Designer will be responsible for producing innovative, high-quality e-learning content in support of DSS's software products. This role requires the ability to independently oversee the full lifecycle of e-learning content production — from initial design conceptualization through finished deliverables, ensuring all materials meet professional standards and align with organizational objectives. The Instructional Designer will collaborate closely with DSS software Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to analyze and translate complex technical information into clear, accessible, and engaging end-user content tailored to our healthcare software clients. This position operates with minimal supervision from the Instructional Designer-Senior, requiring a self-motivated professional with strong project management skills, keen attention to detail, and a demonstrated ability to produce polished instructional materials in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities

- Develop professional e-learning content for internal audiences, including self-paced courses, narrated presentations, job aids, and assessments.
- Develop and produce e-learning content for external clients, delivering professional, high-quality media that meets client requirements and industry standards.
- Build and maintain course content using professional authoring tools including Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, PowerPoint, and Snagit, producing output that meets SCORM, HTML5, and 508 compliance standards as required.
- Partner with subject matter experts across the organization to translate technical and operational content into clear, engaging learning experiences for target audiences.
- Publish and administer courses in the Learning Management System (Paycom), including enrollment setup, content configuration, and reporting.
- Maintain instructional quality standards across all OT-produced content, submitting work for Director review and approval prior to production and publication.
- Stay current with emerging trends in instructional design, e-learning technology, and AI tools, and actively apply them to improve the efficiency and quality of OT content.
Qualifications
- A strong grasp of written, oral, and visual communications with the ability to draft, write, produce, edit, and deliver professional e-learning content.
- Demonstrated experience applying a structured instructional design methodology to develop e-learning content from needs analysis through publication.
- Proficiency with professional e-learning authoring tools; Adobe Captivate experience strongly preferred.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to write clear learning objectives, narration scripts, assessments, and instructional copy.
- Experience publishing and administering content in a Learning Management System.
- Demonstrated fluency with AI tools as an active part of a professional workflow.
- A portfolio of finished e-learning work demonstrating current skills and representative projects.
