About the role
The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is seeking highly motivated and energetic applicants for the position of Instructional Coach. The ideal candidate should have a good attitude, willingness to learn, and passion for impactful work and learning. The role focuses on teaching and coaching staff on best instructional strategies, particularly in reading and English Language Arts (ELA).
Responsibilities
- Follows the district LETRS training plan and creates short and long-term goals.
- Maintains a priority on the teaching of reading and adjusts based on student learning data and staff training needs.
- Facilitates teachers' understanding and implementation of the Great Teaching Matters Framework, the school's improvement plan, and the district's strategic framework.
- Plans, facilitates, and organizes equity-focused professional learning for school-wide, department, team, and individual professional learning and support.
- Develops and implements detailed coaching plans, focusing on specific goals and measures of success.
- Supports teachers' achievement of goals through coaching strategies that gradually release responsibility for implementing culturally and linguistically responsive, anti-racist instructional practices.
- Collaborates effectively with school and district staff to provide wrap-around support for teachers' growth in instruction and differentiated planning.
- Provides clear and direct non-evaluative, equity-focused feedback to teachers based on analysis of practice.
- Tracks and analyzes student and teacher progress to assess the effectiveness of coaching.
- Fosters teacher team collaboration, leadership, and collective efficacy.
- Attends district-led professional learning meetings, trainings, and events.
- Coaches other disciplines as necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Official transcripts are required for formal employment.
- Average of at least three years of successful teaching experience.
- A Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) teaching license to cover the grade level(s) within the school.
- Holding the 316/317 WI DPI reading license is a preferred qualification.

- Strong knowledge and experience teaching reading.

- Knowledge of adult learning theory.
- Experience facilitating teacher teams and professional learning sessions.
- Knowledge of high quality, anti-racist instruction and ability to coach teachers to examine their own practice and make shifts to meet the unique needs of students.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and success with culturally & linguistically responsive teaching, equity-focused instruction, and general cultural competence.
- Ability to communicate clearly and compellingly with diverse stakeholders in both oral and written forms.
- Anticipate and respond to needs in a high-quality and courteous manner, while maintaining confidentiality.
- Engage in and facilitate difficult conversations focused on issues of racial equity.

Pay
The annual salary minimum is $52,154 (25-26 TE Salary Schedule).
Schedule
The length of the contract is 192 days.
Application Process
Applications are considered on a rolling basis. MMSD will consider applicants who are fully licensed before considering applicants who are not yet licensed. If you do not already have an active Wisconsin teaching license, you must obtain and maintain the necessary license(s) for the position. An application must be on file within 30 days of starting your employment with MMSD. Failure to do so will result in your contract being voided.
