Instructional Coach [Elementary] (SY26-27)

Boston Public Schools seeks an exceptional Instructional Coach to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders. About the role

The Instructional Coach will provide professional support and technical assistance to teachers, ensuring the full implementation of the instructional focus and expectations. Reports to the Principal/Head of School.

Responsibilities

• Set up effective classroom environments and assist in planning effective lessons.
• Conduct and debrief demonstration classes, co-teach occasional classes, and provide in-class coaching, including videotaping and debriefing lessons.
• Assist in planning school-based professional development during and after school, including workshops, study groups, looking-at-student-work-and-data sessions, and peer observations.
• Assist in the proper implementation of BPS mid- and end-of-year assessments, as well as the analysis and response to results.
• Maintain an up-to-date log of all activities in and out of classrooms, including objectives, teachers worked with, outcomes, next steps, and timelines.
• Monitor individual teacher progress and participation in professional development activities, ensuring implementation of curriculum and instructional strategies.
• Participate in all professional development activities, including weekly meetings focused on implementation coordination, problem-solving, and coaches' professional development.
• Share lead responsibility for selected elements of the instructional focus (e.g., assessment development, data gathering and analysis, professional development regarding instructional strategies).
• Perform additional responsibilities as requested by the Principal.

Requirements

• Hold a valid Massachusetts Teaching License in an appropriate content area.
• Experience and demonstrated expertise as a teacher of relevant content and/or subjects.
• Demonstrated success working with teachers and administrators as a professional development provider, team leader, and/or facilitator.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment.

Qualifications (Preferred)

• Hold an SEI endorsement or a dual certification in ESL.
• Experience working in an urban setting.
• Special education license, experience, and/or expertise.
• Fluency in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Somali.
• Certification in Moderate Disabilities, English as a Second Language, or both.

Pay

BTU, Group I, plus additional compensation equal to 5% of the individual's annual base salary. For more details, refer to the BPS website for salary and compensation information listed by Unions and Grade/Step.

Schedule

The start and end times of BPS schools vary, as do the lengths of the school day. Some schools have a longer day through the "Schedule A" Expanded Learning Time (ELT) agreement.
