About the Role

This position is responsible for coaching, supporting, and guiding teachers in best practices for mathematics instruction. The role provides intense professional development through modeling, collaborating, and coaching teachers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with an endorsement in Elementary Education; math specialist certification preferred.
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience with demonstrated success in mathematics.
  • Evidence of involvement in school activities and committees involving leadership responsibilities beyond classroom requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of mathematics curriculum and instructional best practices.
  • Effective instructional delivery techniques and ability to guide and train teachers in these techniques and strategies.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, administrators, community members, students, and others.

Responsibilities

  • Provides instructional support to secondary teachers related to the mathematics curriculum, including frequent classroom visits, observing instruction, planning, modeling or co-teaching, consulting, reflection, and debriefing.
  • Assists teachers with classroom organization, materials procurement, learning center activities, cooperative learning strategies, and implementation of instructional best practices.
  • Observes the planning process and instruction, providing supportive and specific feedback to teachers.
  • Creates resources for teachers to utilize during classroom instruction.
  • Collaborates regularly with Instructional Supervisor, Instructional Specialist, and building administrator to address areas of greatest need.
  • Analyzes data to determine benchmarks, establish goals, and monitor improvement in identified schools, developing concrete steps to address needs.
  • Assists teachers in analyzing data to guide instruction and interventions.
  • Attends staff development and professional activities to maintain knowledge of coaching skills and adult learning theory.
  • Develops and conducts professional development for teachers on instructional strategies, best practices, and specific instructional topics.
  • Keeps detailed records related to all aspects of the position, including a coaching log.
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Develops and provides professional development to elementary teachers aligned with division goals.
  • Initiates and maintains effective liaisons with professional organizations to stay abreast of developments and research in the profession.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Secondary Mathematics Supervisor or appropriate administrator.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity to dial a telephone and enter data into a computer.
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels and speak in audible tones.
  • Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds, bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead.

Duties are normally performed in an office or school environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
