Instructional Coach - Math/Science - Elementary School

About the Role

Provide support to programs and services that supplement the regular education program, curriculum, and district initiatives. The goal is to ensure students graduate college, career, and/or military ready and have opportunities to participate in other college readiness measures.

Coordinate and provide support in professional learning communities to align content, implement the backwards design process, and utilize curriculum resources. Serve as an on-site instructional coach for teaching staff to train and provide supplemental support to regular education programs.

Responsibilities

• Provides instructional support to all students, including Emergent Bilinguals, at-risk students, and those who did not perform satisfactorily on assessments (e.g., Diagnostic Assessments, STAAR, state/district assessments, and checkpoints).
• Serve as an on-site instructional coach for teaching staff and collaborate in professional learning communities.
• Demonstrate instructional strategies to improve student performance in Math/Science and/or Reading and Language Arts/Social Studies.
• Assist in the collection, analysis, and evaluation of student performance data; ensure appropriate student placement in supplemental programs such as Response to Intervention (RTI), Section 504, Gifted and Talented (GT), and enrichment.
• Serve as the trainer and liaison for campus-wide professional development workshops provided by the district.
• Coordinate and provide staff development training for district initiatives and supplemental programs during faculty meetings and designated professional development days.
• Collaborate with teachers and the administrative team to develop and evaluate supplemental instructional programs.
• Perform classroom support visits and periodically review Math/Science, Reading and Language Arts/Social Studies, Advanced, and College and Career Readiness programs for student success.
• Maintain an auditable schedule of daily duties, including detailed records of extra-duty work.
• Work individually with teachers on specific instructional strategies to provide differentiated instruction and follow-up after training.
• Leverage technology to strengthen the teaching and learning process, particularly for at-risk students.
• Provide ongoing differentiated support and monitor the use of campus and district resources.
• Collaborate with campus administrators to plan and coordinate instructional initiatives such as orientation, instructional nights, fairs, awards programs, tutoring, STAAR interventions, College and Career Readiness (CCR), intersession, and summer school.
• Prepare and maintain complete and accurate records as required by administrative regulations, district policies, and state/federal agencies.
• Assist campus administration in compiling pertinent administrative reports.
• Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and resources for distance or virtual learning, reflecting understanding of student learning styles and needs.
• Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing during regular school business hours to confer with district personnel, students, and/or parents.
• Participate in required meetings coordinated by supervisors.
• Create a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' physical, social, and emotional development.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Certification in Educational Supervision and/or Mid-Management/Principalship/Superintendency preferred.
• Three years of experience as a classroom teacher.
• Texas Teacher Certificate relevant to the grade levels served.
• Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction to increase student achievement.
• Ability to evaluate instructional programs and coordinate supplemental district programs.
• Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data.
• Strong organizational, communication, computer, and public relations skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.

Mental & Physical Demands

• Able to maintain emotional control under stress.
• Frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
• Prolonged sitting, standing, frequent kneeling, squatting, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and twisting.
• Regular lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); movement of small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
• Repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists, and frequent walking.
• Occasional district-wide and state-wide travel.
• Work inside, outside, from home, or other locations besides the school building; exposure to noise.
• Use of personal or district-issued computer, phone system, video/instructional equipment, and peripherals.
• Valid Texas/New Mexico driver’s license; must comply with the district’s drug and alcohol screening policy and be insurable by the district’s auto liability insurance carrier.
