Duties And Responsibilities
- Coaches and supports teachers in planning, delivering, and assessing evidence-based mathematics instruction using high-quality instructional materials.
- Plans, models, and co-teaches effective lessons; provides ongoing, job-embedded support through classroom visits, observation, co-teaching, consultation, guided reflection, and timely, specific feedback.
- Participates in and observes instructional planning and implementation, offering actionable feedback and recommendations.
- Collaborates regularly with Math Coordinators, building administrators, math specialists, and school staff to identify and address priority instructional needs and student learning barriers.
- Analyzes student data to establish benchmarks, set goals, monitor progress, and develop targeted action steps at the classroom, school, or content level.
- Supports math specialists in designing and implementing remediation plans and targeted interventions.
- Aids the PK-5 Math Coordinator and curriculum teams in the development and revision of curriculum and assessments.
- Designs and facilitates high-quality professional development at the school and division levels to strengthen instructional practices, content knowledge, and teacher capacity.
- Engages in ongoing professional learning to maintain expertise in mathematics content, instructional strategies, coaching practices, and adult learning theory; stays current with research and emerging technologies.
- Builds and maintains strong, collaborative relationships with teachers; uses active listening and questioning to support problem-solving and next steps.
- Facilitates professional learning through team and individual coaching, promoting reflection, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Operates as a non-supervisory, non-evaluative partner who advocates for and supports formative feedback processes without engaging in teacher evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
- Bachelor's degree with endorsements in both Elementary Education and Math Specialist certification required; Master's degree and administrative endorsement preferred.
- Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license and have a minimum of 3-5 years of successful elementary mathematics teaching experience.
- Demonstrated leadership through active participation in school initiatives, committees, or roles beyond the classroom.
- In-depth knowledge of mathematics curriculum, pedagogy, and instructional best practices.
- Proven ability to model effective instructional delivery and coach teachers in research-based strategies and techniques.
- Strong organizational, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Expertise in planning and implementing instructional technology systems and professional development; understanding of equity, at-risk student populations, and school culture.
- Technical proficiency with computer systems and networking, including the ability to conduct instructional technology needs assessments and systems analysis.
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following: small-group instruction; how students learn and process numeracy; pedagogy; and content knowledge.
- Expertise in a wide range of instructional approaches, resources, and technologies.
- Proven ability to analyze and use data to inform instructional decisions.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills to effectively facilitate coaching and staff development.
- Knowledge of and ability to support implementation of the Framework for Quality Learning, Teacher Performance Appraisal standards, and Professional Learning Community protocols and practices.
