About the role

This position provides academic support in various subjects for participants of the TRIO Student Support Services program. The role involves direct interaction with students, assisting in one-to-one, small group, and classroom settings. The primary goal is to monitor, track, and evaluate the learning and progress of participants to promote their success.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts one-to-one and small group tutoring in math, science, and general studies subject areas.
  • Diagnostics student tutorial needs and evaluates participant progress.
  • Develops and implements supplemental curricula, materials, and instruction for basic skills courses.
  • Conducts educational workshops and presentations for students enrolled in high-risk courses.
  • Works with and/or demonstrates various types of audio-visual materials, computer applications, and other materials or delivery systems used in an instructional program.
  • Facilitates the learning process by conducting workshops and presentations for students enrolled in high-risk courses.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of student progress and tutoring sessions.
  • Meets with faculty regarding student progress and course content/materials, as needed.
  • Affords assistance in the recruitment and retention of program students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in math, science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working directly with underprepared post-secondary students in an academic environment.
  • Demonstrated success in motivating and encouraging students.
  • Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team.

  • Basic knowledge of fundamental Math/English/Science concepts with the ability to apply in various situations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of exemplary instructional methods and practices.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work accurately with great attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize/handle multiple tasks and work with deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and high volume and service environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships.
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking to identify and implement efficiencies within daily operations.
  • Knowledge and ability to effectively and appropriately interact with students with varying linguistic and cultural backgrounds at the post-secondary level.
  • Sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of students and the community.

The position offers benefits commensurate with experience and qualifications, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.

Pay

The target starting salary range is $42,000 to $46,000. The final offer for the successful candidate is based on an assessment of internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications in relation to the minimum and/or preferred job requirements.

Schedule

Standard College Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30am-5pm.
