About the role
The Grand Canyon University Speech and Debate Team is seeking a skilled Debate Coach Assistant to provide support to the Director in all areas of coaching for debates.
Responsibilities
- Conduct and coach weekly practice.
- Aid in debate case construction.
- Travel in and out-of-state with the team (up to 10 tournaments per year).
- Judge tournaments.
- Aid with administrative tasks associated with team budget and travel expenses.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Two years of competition or coaching experience in NPDA debate, IPDA debate, and/or AFA/NFA individual events.
- Must successfully pass a background check.
- Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
Qualifications
- Four years of competition or coaching experience in intercollegiate speech and debate.
- Qualified to elimination rounds at the National Parliamentary Tournament of Excellence, National Parliamentary Debate Association Championship Tournament, IPDA or Speech National Championships.
Skills
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with tournament organization and administration.
