The San Juan Unified School District is seeking an Elementary Instructional Assistant for the position of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. This is a permanent, full-time (0.75 FTE) position with a salary range of $19.51 - $24.55 per hour.

About the role

This position supports the educational program at Dewey Elementary School. The successful candidate will assist in providing a safe and inclusive learning environment for students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.

Responsibilities

• Supports the implementation of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) for students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.
• Assists in the development and maintenance of a supportive classroom environment.
• Collaborates with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure effective communication and support for students.
• Participates in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid California Driver’s License.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of sign language and/or American Sign Language (ASL).
• Understanding of deaf culture and the unique needs of students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and families.

Skills
