About the role
The Institutional Consultant provides investment advisory services to institutional clients, focusing on nonprofit organizations and a select group of corporate institutions. This role collaborates closely with boards, investment committees, and senior leadership to offer advice on investment policy, asset allocation, manager selection, alternatives, and performance measurement.
Responsibilities
- Expand new business development through prospecting, relationship building, and proposal generation aligned with firm strategies.
- Provide consultative investment advisory services tailored to each client's unique goals and objectives.
- Actively participate in the Institutional Advisory Services Team, contributing to thought leadership in institutional consulting and investments.
- Maintain open and timely communication with clients, ensuring alignment with their needs, firm standards, and industry expertise.
- Offer investment strategy and advice in line with Goelzer’s philosophy, current outlook, and policies.
- Manage and review investment portfolios for clients, ensuring compliance with written investment policies and Goelzer’s policies.
- Present complex investment topics to boards, committees, and other groups effectively.
- Perform additional services as needed to meet and exceed client needs and expectations, including custodial and investment manager searches and evaluations.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience with an investment advisory or consulting firm.
- Experience in business development or B2B sales is highly desired.
- Relevant experience in institutional advisory and consulting is strongly preferred.
- Broad familiarity with institutional advisory and portfolio management concepts.
- Solid knowledge of the capital markets, broad asset classes, and related indices, alternatives, investment structures, performance attribution, and analytical tools.
- Demonstrated ability to present complex topics to boards and committees in an understandable manner.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Economics, Finance, Financial Planning, or related fields.
- Broad familiarity with institutional advisory and portfolio management concepts.
- Coursework in Behavioral Sciences and Communications is a plus.
- CFA, CIMA, and/or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation highly desirable.

- Proficiency with MS Office: Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills required.
- Experience with CRM systems such as Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), organizational skills, and keen attention to detail.
- Ability to produce high-quality work in a demanding, time-constrained environment.
