Responsibilities

  • Core Responsibilities
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, be able to write clear, concise reports and communicate effectively with customers and contractors.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Must be willing and able to read and interpret steam, electric, and gas plates.
  • Must be able to perform all job functions while wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and also be available to work routine, night, emergency overtime & weekend duties when required.
  • Operate computerized equipment, e.g. iPhone & tablet PC, as it relates to the job functions they are performing.
  • Conduct field inspections to ensure that all company facilities are protected, supported, maintained in accordance with all applicable engineering designs, specifications, procedures, and/or codes.
  • Ensure all code 753 requirements are implemented on every applicable job.
  • Ensure that the contractor's means and methods conform to their HASP and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Assure all contractor work is conducted within stipulations required by applicable NYC permits, guidelines, and minimize qualify of life issues for the community we serve.
  • Respond to company-wide events, such as storm emergencies, heat alerts, system outages, feeder patrols, etc.
  • Respond to contractor damages and prepare damage investigation reports as required.
  • Establish and maintain professional, effective, timely, and consistent communication with fellow inspectors, CCIs, project specialists, managers, and all required company and external agency personnel.
  • Prepare and submit loose leaf drawings, time sheets, field sketches and item cut sheets for contractor payments accurately and timely.
  • Be willing to utilize personal vehicle for company business while receiving mileage compensation.
  • Be willing and able to be trained for and provide guidance and oversight to Steam Field Operations and Steam Welding employees.

Qualifications

  • Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 2 years of experience in Steam or Construction
  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of experience
  • Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Environmental, Architecture, Computer Science or Construction Management
  • Relevant Work Experience
  • 2 years In Steam Operations (Distribution or Steam Plant) is preferred
  • 2 years In Construction (CM, Paving, PI, etc.) is preferred
  • Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required

Physical Demands

  • Ability to respond to system emergencies
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
  • Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
  • Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
  • Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
  • Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
  • Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
  • Work with personal vehicle(s), and be able to transport, store, and secure company laptops and other job-related equipment in vehicle
