Responsibilities
- Core Responsibilities
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, be able to write clear, concise reports and communicate effectively with customers and contractors.
- Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
- Must be willing and able to read and interpret steam, electric, and gas plates.
- Must be able to perform all job functions while wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and also be available to work routine, night, emergency overtime & weekend duties when required.
- Operate computerized equipment, e.g. iPhone & tablet PC, as it relates to the job functions they are performing.
- Conduct field inspections to ensure that all company facilities are protected, supported, maintained in accordance with all applicable engineering designs, specifications, procedures, and/or codes.
- Ensure all code 753 requirements are implemented on every applicable job.
- Ensure that the contractor's means and methods conform to their HASP and local, state, and federal regulations.
- Assure all contractor work is conducted within stipulations required by applicable NYC permits, guidelines, and minimize qualify of life issues for the community we serve.
- Respond to company-wide events, such as storm emergencies, heat alerts, system outages, feeder patrols, etc.
- Respond to contractor damages and prepare damage investigation reports as required.
- Establish and maintain professional, effective, timely, and consistent communication with fellow inspectors, CCIs, project specialists, managers, and all required company and external agency personnel.
- Prepare and submit loose leaf drawings, time sheets, field sketches and item cut sheets for contractor payments accurately and timely.
- Be willing to utilize personal vehicle for company business while receiving mileage compensation.
- Be willing and able to be trained for and provide guidance and oversight to Steam Field Operations and Steam Welding employees.
Qualifications
- Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 2 years of experience in Steam or Construction
- High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of experience
- Preferred Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Environmental, Architecture, Computer Science or Construction Management
- Relevant Work Experience
- 2 years In Steam Operations (Distribution or Steam Plant) is preferred
- 2 years In Construction (CM, Paving, PI, etc.) is preferred
- Licenses and Certifications
- Driver's License Required
Physical Demands
- Ability to respond to system emergencies
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
- Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
- Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
- Work with personal vehicle(s), and be able to transport, store, and secure company laptops and other job-related equipment in vehicle
