About the role

Insomniac is looking for Exterior Operations Crew members to support festival builds, signage, and shuttle operations. This position reports to the Director of Exterior Operations.

Available Positions

  • Exterior Operations Site Crew / Heavy Equipment Operator: Operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, stakebeds, water trucks, dump trucks, front-end loaders, and skid steers. Forklift certification required. Earth-moving equipment and/or CDL certifications and experience are a plus.
  • Ext Ops Build Leads: Experienced in festival builds or comparable environments. Leads understand not just what to build but why and how. Responsibilities include directing crew safety, coordinating with vendors (e.g., fence vendors for layout), managing inventory, and reporting equipment maintenance needs.
  • Signage Crew: Responsible for hanging directional signs around the festival perimeter, ranging from small signs (3’ x 3’) installed with zip ties to larger signs on overhead truss or parking lot flags. Forklift certification is helpful but not required.
  • Signage Leads: Perform all signage crew duties while also understanding the purpose and placement of signs. Directs the signage crew, with strong knowledge of the local area, patron flow, key points of interest, and paths of travel. Requires prior signage or similar experience.
  • Shuttle Loader/Unloader: Entry-level role focused on loading and unloading headliners from buses on show days. No certifications required.
  • Shuttle Leads: Manage shuttle operations, including staff break times, bus driver check-ins, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring smooth bus flow. Requires experience in shuttle operations.

Requirements

  • Clean motor vehicle report
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • 18 years or older
  • Able to walk long distances for extended periods and remain on feet constantly
  • Able to lift 50+ lbs
  • Clean and presentable attire (show blacks)
  • Motivated with an “Everything is possible” attitude
  • Active problem-solver with a sense of urgency for projects of all sizes
  • Heavy equipment certification (for applicable roles)
  • OSHA certification (preferred)

Work Environment

  • Must tolerate loud noise levels and busy environments
  • May work in extreme temperature conditions
  • Willingness to travel frequently for events, including holidays, evenings, and weekends to meet deadlines

Pay

Hiring salary range: $16.00–$30.00 USD per hour. Compensation is estimated based on a successful California applicant and assumes the role is performed in or from California. Factors considered include education, training, experience, work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel, external market rates, and internal pay alignment.
