About the Role
Assists the Pharmacist by performing technical functions, including reviewing and processing departmental order requests, preparing and distributing medications to patient care units, maintaining medication inventory, and handling billing and other pharmacy duties that do not require a pharmacist.
Responsibilities
- Reviews and processes departmental order requests.
- Prepares medications for distribution to patient care units.
- Distributes medications to patient care units.
- Maintains medication inventory, places orders, checks expiration dates, and processes returns.
- Handles billing and other pharmacy duties that do not require a pharmacist.
- Maintains appropriate records and regulatory documentation.
- Pre-packages and labels bulk medications into unit-dosed containers.
- Answers telephone calls and directs them appropriately, diverting medication or clinical inquiries to the Pharmacist.
- Maintains cleanliness of the department.
- Adheres to established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Participates in educational programs, in-services, and meetings as required.
- Provides service excellence to patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and coworkers.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Tech Academy Trainee Duties
- Issues and delivers non-controlled medications in a timely manner.
- Accurately processes sales in the Community Pharmacy Point of Sale device using cash, credit cards, and checks.
Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Duties
- Orders medications from various suppliers.
- Prepares parenteral products.
- Trains and orients new pharmacy support personnel.
- Issues and delivers Schedule II-V medications to Automated Dispensing Cabinets in a timely manner.
Inpatient Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician Duties
- Obtains patient medication orders for medication reconciliation duties to input into MAR.
- Prepares chemotherapy and performs dosage calculation checks.
Requirements
Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, Academy Trainee – Grade S6
- Massachusetts state registration as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
- Mathematical skills at the level of a High School graduate or equivalent, demonstrated by successful completion of a timed CCHC Pharmacy math test.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- High School graduate or GED.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Basic computer/keyboarding skills necessary to run multiple Pharmacy-specific applications and communicate efficiently via messaging systems.
- Must attempt the CCHC Pharmacy Tech Trainee exam after a minimum of 500 hours worked.
- Must pass the CCHC Pharmacy Tech Trainee exam by 700 hours worked.
- Upon obtaining MA Pharmacy Technician State License, will transfer into the Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, State Licensed – Grade S7 position.
Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, State Licensed – Grade S7
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Massachusetts state registration as a Pharmacy Technician.
- Very good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must obtain PTCB certification or equivalent within 1 year of hire.
- Upon obtaining PTCB certification or equivalent, will transfer into the Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, Nationally Certified – Grade S8 position.
Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, Nationally Certified – Grade S8
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Massachusetts state registration as a Pharmacy Technician.
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification or equivalent.
- One-year recent experience (within the past 3 years) as a Pharmacy Technician; 3 years preferred, or PTCB certification or equivalent as an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
- Very good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Schedule
32 hours per week, rotating days/evenings/nights on the following shifts:
- 6a-2p
- 7a-3p
- 8a-4p
- 9a-5p
- 11a-7p
- 2p-10p
- 3p-11p
- 4p-12am
- 7p-3a
- 11p-7a
Every other weekend and rotating holidays.
Pay
Hourly pay range: $19.95 - $30.89
