Inpatient Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant - Hospital Medicine

About the role

The primary purpose of the Advanced Practice Provider (APRN/PA), in the Department of Hospital Medicine is to promote and maintain the health of HM patients across the care continuum throughout the institution supporting the inpatient hospitalist programs. As the Department of Hospital Medicine is a service that operates 24/7/365, evening shifts will also be supported by the hospitalist advanced practice providers for after-hours and weekend coverage, rotating holidays and COVID coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical history, physical examinations, and psychosocial evaluations.
  • Evaluate patient outcomes in collaboration with attending physicians and develop, implement, and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
  • Monitor and interpret laboratory, radiographic, and procedural data to support patient disposition decisions; visually evaluate data and prepare accurate written documentation.
  • Communicate assessment findings, diagnostic results, and treatment updates effectively to physicians, multidisciplinary team members, patients, and family members.
  • Promote collaboration and open communication among healthcare team members, colleagues, and partner organizations to protect and advance the best interests of patients.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment options, side-effect management, and anticipatory guidance.
  • Participate in and support clinical research protocols by interviewing patients, reviewing eligibility criteria, and identifying potential candidates for studies.
  • Deliver patient and family education and conduct in-service training for nursing staff related to protocol requirements; serve as a liaison among patients, families, physicians, and other personnel.
  • Participate in the education and mentoring of advanced practice nursing students, house officers, and medical students; instruct allied health coworkers in accurate patient documentation and data entry.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current license to practice as an APRN or PA in the State of Texas.
  • Completion of an approved residency program in Hospital Medicine.
  • Experience in an inpatient setting preferred.
  • Strong clinical judgment and autonomy.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, 24/7 environment.
  • Passion for patient education and academic engagement.

Pay

Salary range: $120,000 - $150,000 annually.

Schedule

This will be an inpatient evening shift role covering 12:00pm-10:00pm working 7on-7off shift (Tuesday-Mondays).
