Inn Overnight Engineer - Flex

About the role

The Overnight Engineer II is responsible for repairs, maintenance, upkeep, and operations of materials, supplies, and components of the Inn. This role involves interior and exterior projects including plumbing, painting, carpentry, minor electrical, and HVAC work, as well as assisting in other areas of Engineering such as preventative maintenance of Inn public areas and guest rooms. The position supports the Engineering team in delivering exceptional service to guests of the Inn on Biltmore Estate and provides general assistance to leadership and the department.

Schedule

This is a 3rd shift position, generally scheduled Friday-Monday from 10:30pm to 6:00am. The ability to work overnight hours as designated by leadership is essential.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate knowledge of correct maintenance procedures and proper use of equipment.
• Stay informed about all Inn features, services, hours of operation, room types, layouts, and locations.
• Track daily house count, expected arrivals/departures, and room availability status.
• Receive and review daily work assignments, priorities, and special projects from the Chief Engineer/Supervisor.
• Maintain par stock levels of fixtures, tools, and standard supplies; communicate requisition needs to the Engineering Supervisor.
• Operate and maintain the property's electrical systems, plumbing equipment, and carpentry functions.
• Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of the work area.
• Handle chemicals for designated uses and surfaces.
• Assist with special projects and room preventive maintenance.
• Ensure proper maintenance of the swimming pool, including testing water and equipment.
• Maintain proper use, cleaning, and storage of all tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Install, maintain, replace, or repair equipment, hardware, fixtures, furniture, ceiling tiles, doors, walls, cabinetry, locks, and more.
• Possess knowledge of Biltmore Estate activities, special events, and attractions.
• Maintain positive guest relations, anticipate guest needs, and respond promptly at all times.
• Provide assistance and support to the department, leadership, and the company.

Requirements

• High school diploma required.
• Additional training, education, or certification in Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, or other trades preferred.
• Minimum two years of experience in commercial plant operations and mechanics, preferably in an upscale hotel, resort, or facility setting.
• Demonstrated commitment to delivering world-class internal and external guest service.
• Experience with carpentry, plumbing, and building mechanical systems (electrical, etc.); ability to read construction drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
• Strong math skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to provide clear and concise directions and interact professionally with staff and guests.
• Strong planning and organizational skills; ability to prioritize work, multitask, and adapt.
• Proactive with good judgment; ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve.
• Keen attention to detail with a focus on quality and service.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently transport 50–75 pounds.
• Endure various physical movements, including reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, and lifting.
• Ability to remain in stationary or ambulatory positions throughout the work shift.
• Work in variable temperature conditions (extreme heat or cold).
• Work under variable noise levels, both outdoors and indoors.
• Work around fumes, odors, dust, mites, chemicals, and other hazards.
