About the role

As an Information Technology Supervisor 3 within the Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS) Information Technology Office (ITO) Security Operations Group (SOG), you will supervise IT staff and direct the IT Cybersecurity Team to perform threat hunting, incident response, vulnerability management, and penetration testing activities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff whose primary duties involve writing, analyzing, and designing computer programs and systems integration for mainframe or open systems.
  • Manage and direct the IT Cybersecurity Team to perform threat hunting, incident response, vulnerability management, and penetration testing activities.
  • Establish and implement policies, procedures, and standards to improve ODPS cybersecurity defense and security measures (e.g., system and programming standards; training; hardware and software; organization and staffing).
  • Participate in Engineering Review Board and Architecture Design reviews to ensure cybersecurity best practices and standards are utilized by all applications, networks, servers, and desktop infrastructure.
  • Work with the DAS/OISP Agency Security Officer to implement cybersecurity standards, tools, and policies required by the Ohio Department of Administrative Services (DAS).
  • Assist in divisional budget preparations and make recommendations for operational and cybersecurity improvements.

Requirements

Option 1

  • 7 1/2 years (90 months) of experience commensurate with job duties to be performed and knowledge and skills required as outlined in the approved position description on file for the position to be filled as advertised in this job posting.
  • 12 months of experience in performing project management functions as defined in the series purpose.

Option 2

  • Completion of undergraduate core coursework in computer science, or completion of undergraduate core coursework in any academic major which included at least one course in each of the following:
    • Advanced-level computer programming language (e.g., Cobol, Delphi, Java, Powerbuilder, Visual Basic, PL/I, SAS PCS, Pacbase, Full Visual Suite, Designer 2000, Developer 2000, C, C++, Visual C, ECL, or Visual Studio)
    • Logic-based mathematics
    • Database concepts (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft Access, Paradox, Sybase, IMS DB, DB2, Cache, DMS, or RDMS)
    • Computer systems analysis and design
    • Basic data processing concepts
  • Additional 5 1/2 years (66 months) of experience commensurate with job duties to be performed and knowledge and skills required as outlined in the approved position description on file for the position to be filled as advertised in this job posting.
  • 12 months of experience in performing project management functions as defined in the series purpose.

Project management is defined as a series of steps followed to formulate and/or implement project policy to ensure successful project development, including:

  • Defining the problem (e.g., gathering user requirements; meeting with stakeholders)
  • Developing possible solutions (e.g., facilitating brainstorming sessions; identifying resource requirements; developing cost-benefit analysis; developing a recommended solution; seeking agreement to proceed)
  • Developing a project plan (e.g., identifying milestones and critical dependencies; gathering appropriate resources and securing commitment; finalizing funding; encumbering funds; building project plan; distributing plan for review)
  • Executing the plan (e.g., providing ongoing status reports; responding to changes in scope; coordinating deliverables; supervising project staff both assigned and ad hoc; defining team members’ roles and responsibilities; managing team; maintaining project schedule; responding to problems)
  • Validation and verification (e.g., post-project follow-up and review; updating plan template; holding a lessons-learned discussion and documentation session; closing out the project)
