About the Role

This position works in the Server Management Branch, focusing on information technology (IT) such as web services, database connectivity, email systems, storage systems, and backup/restore functions. The role supports the setup and maintenance of servers, storage systems, backup systems, and email systems, providing technical guidance on Windows Servers with Active Directory and addressing statewide IT issues.

The work includes analysis, specification, design, build, implementation, and support of IT systems with statewide impact. Collaboration is required with Judiciary staff, ITSD staff, Circuit IT staff, Executive Branch IT staff, vendors, and Judiciary clients. A significant portion of the role involves adding, upgrading, troubleshooting, and supporting IT infrastructure, including servers (virtual and stand-alone), centralized storage systems, backup systems, peripherals, and associated software.

Responsibilities

• Set up and maintain servers, storage systems, and backup systems.
• Provide support for email systems and technical guidance on Windows Servers with Active Directory.
• Address and resolve IT issues across statewide circuits.
• Analyze, design, plan, document, implement, and support IT systems.
• Collaborate with Judiciary staff, ITSD staff, Circuit IT staff, Executive Branch IT staff, vendors, and clients.
• Troubleshoot and upgrade IT infrastructure, including virtual and stand-alone servers, storage systems, and backup systems.
• Assist in other project areas as needed.

Requirements

Education

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree.
• Excess experience in administrative, professional, analytical, technical, or other responsible work may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis (up to four years).

The education or experience must demonstrate the ability to:

• Write clear and comprehensive reports and documents.
• Read and interpret complex written material.
• Solve complex problems logically and systematically.

Specialized Experience

• Three and one-half (3.5) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in information technology, including systems analysis, design, programming, security and access management, database design, consulting, or maintaining IT infrastructure (hardware, software, telecommunications, web, or network equipment).
• Demonstrated knowledge of IT principles, methods, techniques, and practices; computer hardware, software, and peripheral equipment; and operating systems (personal computer, server, mini, or mainframe).

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience with enterprise hardware systems (e.g., IBM Power Systems, Lenovo Systems, Cisco Systems) and associated operating systems (AIX, Linux, Windows Server).
• Experience with virtualization software like VMware or Hyper-V.
• Ability to stay current with new IT trends, processes, and systems.
• Knowledge and experience with backup/restore systems and email systems.
• Knowledge and experience with Microsoft’s M365 Suite (e.g., Outlook, Teams, SharePoint).
• Strong interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution and relationship-building capabilities.

Supervisory Aptitude

At this level, supervisory aptitude may substitute for actual supervisory experience. Supervisory aptitude includes:

• Successful completion of assignments with some supervisory responsibilities.
• Serving as a group or team leader.
• Completion of training courses in supervision with application of skills in work assignments.
• Favorable appraisals indicating supervisory potential.

Substitutions Allowed

• A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field may substitute for six (6) months of the required specialized experience.
• Partial completion of a master’s degree in computer science may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required specialized experience (month-for-month basis).
• A master’s degree in computer science may substitute for one and one-half (1.5) years of the required specialized experience.
• A Ph.D. in computer science may substitute for two and one-half (2.5) years of the required specialized experience.

Pay

$6,221 to $6,998 per month (SR-24, Step D to G).
