Information Technology Specialist (Network)
Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Enterprise Infrastructure and Operations Directorate located in Orlando, FL. Additional selections may be made beyond the total number of vacancies specified, including for other organizational divisions and units within the listed duty location(s).
Duties
- Receive, analyze, and respond to major unplanned network service interruptions/incidents from customers, internal IT, and other Network Operations events to maintain the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the network, systems, and applications.
- Coordinate the gathering and reviewing of network utilization statistics and performance measures to ensure network stability, quality, and maximum performance while maintaining system security and integrity.
- Lead and support special projects and additional tasks, including formal and informal briefings, operational support, and other assignments as requested.
- Prepare and present executive summaries to senior management officials on major incidents and initiatives.
- Represent the office in interactions with other government components/agencies or private contractors.
Requirements

This is a bargaining unit covered position, represented under the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU).
Qualifications
Basic Requirement: Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies:
- Attention to Detail – Thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
- Customer Service – Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
- Oral Communication – Expresses information effectively, makes clear and convincing oral presentations, listens to others, and responds appropriately.
- Problem Solving – Identifies problems, determines accuracy and relevance of information, and uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
You qualify for this position at the GS-13 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
- Planning, designing, developing, and integrating new technologies into new or existing networks.
- Evaluating technologies to ensure compliance with security requirements related to the Authority to Operate.
- Managing multiple concurrent tasks and projects by planning, organizing, and prioritizing tasks.
- Planning, implementing, and managing problem management systems to resolve problems and recommend operational improvements.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Pay
This position starts at a salary of $106,437.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $138,370.00 (GS-13, Step 10).

Additional Information
- This position may require occasional travel for attendance at meetings and conferences away from the work site.
- Some employees may need to drive a motor vehicle.
- All employees new to the federal government must serve a one-year probationary period.
- Residency requirement: Individuals not currently employed by CBP must have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years. Exceptions may apply for those working for the U.S. Government, participating in study abroad programs, or supporting the U.S. government in other capacities.
