About the role
The Information Technology Specialist II position supports the mission of the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) through the protection of the confidentiality, security, and availability of department information resources and the continuous improvement of the department's information security program.
Responsibilities
- Supports the mission of CalRecycle through the design, administration, and continuous improvement of enterprise ServiceNow solutions, IT Service Management processes, and related technical services.
- Ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of departmental information systems and contributes to the reliability and effectiveness of enterprise service management operations.
- Functions in multiple capacities, including technical lead, subject matter expert, team lead, team member, and independent analyst.
- Designs and develops ServiceNow solutions; administers the platform; leads in platform governance; supports ITSM processes and enhancements; performs data analysis and reporting; consults with stakeholders; and participates in departmental IT initiatives.
- Communicates complex technical concepts clearly to technical staff, management, and program personnel; prepares documentation and reports; facilitates meetings; and contributes to organizational planning efforts.
Requirements
Beginning July 1, 2026, CalRecycle staff will be office centered, requiring employees to report to the office at least four days per week. This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program needs. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the positions designated headquarters location, as reflected on the duty statement and at their own expense.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, and two years of progressively responsible experience in information technology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills
Knowledge of ServiceNow, ITIL, and IT Service Management principles and practices. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, SQL, and scripting languages. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices and standards.

Pay
$8,625.00 - $11,557.00 per year.
Schedule
Hybrid telework arrangement, with at least four days per week in the office.
