About the role
This position is on the Storage Administration Team in the Bureau of Hardware Platforms within the Chief Information Office. Duties include technical and agency program support of IT activities related to network and system design, configuration, maintenance, and security; customer support; business/systems analysis and design; web site development and administration; and database system design and development.
Responsibilities
- Assist with data backups and restores supporting OSC.
- Help develop backup and recovery strategies, including contingency and disaster recovery planning.
- Diagnose and correct failed backups and restores.
- Monitor Storage Administration’s queue in ServiceNow.
- Work with IT Service Management to develop and modify ServiceNow workflows.
- Manage backup reports and record failures and fixes.
- Document procedures, processes, and system architecture.
Minimum Qualifications
Civil Service examinations are not required under the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide (NY HELPS) Program.
Non-Competitive Qualifications
For an appointment to an Information Technology Specialist 2, you must have:
- A bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field and one year of experience in information technology.
- OR a bachelor's or higher-level degree, including or supplemented by 15 credit hours in computer science courses.
- OR 60 semester credit hours including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science and one year of professional experience in information technology.
- OR a total of two years of experience in information technology.
Competitive Minimum Qualifications
You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title, eligible under the 55 b/c program, or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 52.6, 70.1, or 70.4 of the Civil Service Law.
Transfer Requirements
For 52.6, 70.1, or 70.4 transfer to an Information Technology Specialist 2, salary grade (SG)-18, you must have one year of permanent competitive, or 55-b/55-c service in an approved title for transfer allocated to an SG-16 or above.
Non-Competitive Promotion (NCP) Qualifications
You must be a qualified employee of the Office of the New York State Comptroller and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Information Technology Specialist 1.

- Demonstrated experience in Operating Systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience with disaster recovery planning or implementation.
- Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate in a dynamic team environment.
