Information Technology Adjunct (2027 Academic Year)

Job Description

Germanna Community College is a two‑year public institution in the Virginia Community College System, serving the City of Fredericksburg and the surrounding counties. Adjunct faculty members are responsible for planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline to students from diverse academic backgrounds. This posting establishes a pool of qualified candidates for Information Technology courses (in‑person and online) for the 2027 academic year. Hiring and course assignments will depend on enrollment, scheduling demands, program needs, and funding availability.

Location: Spotsylvania, Virginia (must reside within a reasonable commuting distance or be willing to relocate). Position type: Part‑time, exempt (FLSA). Position number: 297A0000. Agency: Germanna Community College.

Responsibilities

• Teach specific Information Technology classes in‑person and online.
• Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
• Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
• Adhere to Germanna and VCCS policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Maintain current competence in the discipline or field of specialization.
• Meet assigned class schedules regularly and submit required records and reports.
• Teach prescribed courses using established texts and follow the college’s professional ethics statement.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including potential emergency assistance as directed by the Governor.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Information Technology.
• Ability to effectively teach both classroom and online environments.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with instructional technology and willingness to learn artificial‑intelligence tools.
• Prior teaching experience (preferred).
• Work experience in the Information Technology field (preferred).
• Experience with online teaching, including synchronous and asynchronous course development at a regionally accredited institution (preferred).

Compensation

Pay range: $961 – $1,997 per credit hour (final salary determined by academic credentials and occupational experience via the VCCS‑10 process).

Schedule

Work hours vary between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm depending on availability and scheduling needs. Adjunct faculty may teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and up to 8 credit hours during the summer session. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs.
