About the Role

Responsible for the development, design, installation, and maintenance of a department’s networked computers. Serves as the sole systems or network administrator, managing the technical aspects of the system/network. Provides user support by troubleshooting PC and network problems and acts as a liaison with personnel operating the University Backbone Network. May supervise other technical support personnel, such as Computer Technicians and Information System Specialists, performing routine maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, or PC/network operations duties.

The Information Systems Specialist II provides advanced technical support and systems administration services for departmental computing environments. This position is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of servers, workstations, storage systems, software applications, and peripheral devices. The incumbent serves as a primary technical resource for faculty, researchers, staff, and students and assists in maintaining reliable, secure, and efficient technology services that support the academic and research missions of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot servers, workstations, storage systems, software applications, and peripheral devices.
  • Serve as a primary technical resource for faculty, researchers, staff, and students.
  • Maintain reliable, secure, and efficient technology services supporting academic and research missions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and three (3) years of related experience required.
  • Work experience may substitute for the education requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience providing IT support for a large department or organization.

Pay

$47,665 - $77,455

Schedule

Position is located onsite in Birmingham, Alabama with no option for hybrid/remote work.
