Information Officer II - Climate Programs

About the role

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) seeks an experienced communications professional to serve as an Information Officer II in the Chair's Office. This role involves shaping the public conversation around California's climate policies and communicating these issues to the public, news media, stakeholders, and decision-makers.

Responsibilities

• Serve as CARB's lead media spokesperson on climate issues.
• Advise executive leadership on communications strategy.
• Develop media campaigns and communication plans.
• Write news releases, talking points, speeches, op-eds, social media, and digital content.
• Translate highly technical climate and air quality policies into plain language.
• Collaborate with the Governor's Office, CalEPA, local air districts, and partner agencies.
• Represent CARB before the public and the media.

Qualifications

• Experience translating complex or highly technical information into clear, compelling language for the public, news media, or other non-technical audiences.
• Experience developing or implementing communications strategies for high-profile, sensitive, or controversial issues.
• Experience serving as a spokesperson or working directly with members of the news media.
• Experience managing multiple competing communications priorities with tight deadlines.
• Experience advising executive leadership or senior management on communications issues.
• Interest in influencing statewide policy, supporting executive leadership, and communicating solutions to a defining issue.

Skills

Must have strong writing skills, the ability to think strategically, and the capacity to work under pressure. Must be able to communicate effectively with diverse audiences and understand the importance of public trust in climate-related issues.

Pay

$7,498.00 - $9,317.00 per month, based on experience.
