About the role

As an Information Coordinator at the Crisis Information Centre (CIC) of Rijkswaterstaat, you play a crucial role in gathering and sharing vital information during potential crisis situations, such as a fire in the Schiphol Tunnel or a freight truck incident. Your work helps minimize the impact on society.

You monitor various sources, including water-level forecasts, (social) media, and traffic and shipping applications. Using this information, you analyze the situation and collaborate closely with colleagues to form a complete picture of the calamity or crisis, including risks and any politically sensitive aspects.

This is a dynamic role—one moment, it may be calm, focusing on operational tasks like preparing for or handling minor incidents. The next, during a crisis, you become pivotal in providing information to Rijkswaterstaat’s active crisis and advisory teams.

Responsibilities

• Inform management within Rijkswaterstaat, the crisis organization, and external partners such as safety regions and water boards about the current situation.
• Ensure timely and accurate communication so that internal and external partners are well-prepared for the crisis.
• Participate in a professional group within the department, for example, to organize realistic crisis exercises with (crisis) partners, prepare planning, or evaluate crisis responses.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the CIC and the Crisis Management department, from adjusting crisis planning to assessing incidents and identifying areas for improvement.

Schedule

• Rotating shifts: 06:00–14:00 or 14:00–22:00, including weekends and holidays.
• On-call duty for the crisis organization outside working hours, shared with colleagues.
• Day shifts during regular office hours (09:00–17:00) for training, crisis exercises, and project work to enhance the CIC’s operations.

Team

The CIC consists of three roles: you work closely with the Crisis Communication Director and the Information Coordinator of the Rijkswaterstaat Crisis Team. You are also part of the Crisis Management department, which includes around 35 people. The team organizes an annual CIC outing and holds monthly meetings with the entire Crisis Management department.
