Job Summary
The Infection Prevention Coordinator promotes and delivers high quality, patient-centered care by assisting with the administration of Infection Prevention policies, procedures and programs. As a part of the Infection Prevention team, the Infection Prevention Coordinator identifies, investigates, reports, and monitors the incidence of nosocomial infections among patients and personnel, and implements policies and procedures to prevent cross-contamination.
Responsibilities
- Participate in infection prevention surveys and surveillance/rounding, based on the organization's risk assessment plan, in accordance with state, federal, and other reporting requirements.
- Evaluates environment, practices, products, devices, and equipment as relating to infection prevention
- Apply epidemiologic principles and statistical methods, including risk stratification and benchmarking, to identify target populations, determine risk factors, design prevention and control strategies, analyze trends, and evaluate processes.
- Collect and analyze data related to infection prevention and control.
- Implement appropriate safety precautions and follow-up procedures to reduce nosocomial risks.
- Interpret data to determine when patients or employees are at acute risk for infection.
- Confer with medical and nursing staff to determine appropriate implementation of isolation precautions when indicated.
- Effectively allow or stop use of equipment dependent upon results of microbiological studies.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma OR Bachelor of Science in Nursing or health-related field required
- 1+ years’ experience in a clinical setting preferred
- 1+ years’ experience in Infection Control preferred
- 1+ years’ experience in a leadership role preferred
- Certification in Infection Control within 2 years of hire date
