About the role

Experts of operations, process, and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for our guests by ensuring product is merchandised and available, accurately priced, and signed on the sales floor. The General Merchandise and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store. This team also leads Food & Beverage and Food Service, providing a fresh and food-safe experience. Experts enable efficient delivery to our guests by owning pick, pack, and ship fulfillment work.

The Inbound team unloads trailer deliveries and prepares merchandise to be stocked on the sales floor.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently deliver guest experience commitments to create an Easy, Inspiring, and Friendly guest experience.
  • Ensure every team member understands, is trained, and consistently delivers on Target’s guest experience commitments and consistent operations.
  • Actively observe and provide feedback, holding team members accountable while recognizing great guest experience moments.
  • Review area guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities, take action to improve, and align the team on the right behaviors and execution; celebrate wins, drive results, and elevate the guest experience.
  • Understand sales goals and plans, and execute daily/weekly workload to deliver department and store sales goals and guest engagement.
  • Lead and share expertise in operations, freshness, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • With guidance from your direct leader, establish clear goals and expectations and hold team members accountable.
  • Utilize workload planning tools to complete all scheduled workload, ensuring areas are guest-ready at store open.
  • Assign daily tasks to team members based on planned workload and guest traffic patterns, ensuring alignment with weekly and monthly business priorities.
  • Assess all GM backroom and sales floor areas, and review reporting to identify gaps and develop a plan to resolve issues.
  • Enable a consistent experience for guests by ensuring product is available for purchase.
  • Assist your direct leader in leading and following up on organizational and operational change.
  • Build a team of GM Experts from initial selection through onboarding and learning.
  • Develop team members through ongoing training and direction by giving feedback when validating work completion.
  • Demonstrate inclusivity by valuing diverse voices and approaches, being authentic and respectful, and creating equitable experiences.
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance; lead the team to work in the same way and hold others accountable.
  • Lead and demonstrate a safety culture through modeling and recognizing safe behaviors, identifying and correcting hazards, and holding the team accountable to following safety expectations.
  • Assist with incident response and report/investigate injuries timely and accurately.
  • Model the execution of physical security processes to enhance the in-store security culture.
  • Support merchandise protection strategies across the total store, including ordering, storage, and application as directed by best practices.
  • If applicable, as a key carrier, follow all safe and secure training and processes.
  • Occasionally assume store-level leadership on duty (LOD) responsibilities to enable the guest experience during assigned shifts based on store needs.
  • Address all store and offsite emergency and compliance needs.
  • Support guest services such as back-up cashier, order pick-up (OPU), and Drive-Up (DU), and maintain a compliance culture while executing those duties, including compliance with federal, state, and local adult beverage laws.
  • Perform all other duties based on business needs.

Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Age 18 or older.
  • Previous retail experience preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to lead and hold others accountable.
  • Learn and adapt to current technology needs.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
  • Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and other team members.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues.
  • Interpret instructions, reports, and information.
  • Accurately handle cash register operations as needed.
  • Climb up and down ladders as needed.
  • Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting, carrying, and moving merchandise up to 44 pounds throughout the duration of a shift without additional assistance. This task involves repetitive bending, twisting, reaching, and rotating motions.
  • Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, and holidays); reliable and prompt attendance necessary.
  • Capable of working in and exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain job duties, including Drive-Up and carryout.
  • Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary).
