Import Agent

About the role

The Import Agent will deliver a consistent and high-quality experience to OCEANAIR Inc.’s customers, both external and internal. Work efficiently in a team environment to process and secure import shipments. To support all sales efforts and quotes as assigned by department manager or supervisor’s departmental activities as needed.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the movement of goods from other countries, ensuring the transit and delivery are made on time. This requires liaising regularly with overseas offices, partners, or agent’s customers and will involve all modes of transportation.
• Ensure all necessary paperwork is complete and acceptable for entry to customs.
• Obtain charges and cargo release details from freight forwarding agents, shipping lines and airlines.
• Responsible for ensuring any payments due are made in advance of any shipment as required, processing all payments and necessary paperwork for accounting purposes while following company requirements.
• Responsible for ensuring maximum profitability on a shipment.
• Check manifests, invoices, and orders to ensure they are recorded accurately for incoming shipments.
• May be required to check goods in, as they arrive against paperwork to ensure shipments are in good condition and accounted for.
• Must be able to manage deadlines and address difficult situations, therefore an element of negotiation is required to meet commitments in a timely manner.
• Work closely with customers to ensure any problems, damage, or anomalies are corrected.
• May be required to arrange the release and transportation of goods received to importer or deliver to party.
• Identify, investigate, and resolve all areas of client concern in a timely and proactive manner. Alert clients to special areas of concern or potential problems in the import process.
• Communicate regularly with clients via phone and email.
• Process and finalize documents in Transportation Management system and the files.

Qualifications

• 1 year hands-on experience in forwarding, logistics or distribution operations preferred.
• Previous knowledge of customs compliance regulation is desired.
• Highly organized, detail oriented, and ability to multitask.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
• Hazardous certification is preferred.
• Strong numerical skills are required.
• High attention to detail and sense of urgency.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office.
