About the Role
The Imaging Clerk is responsible for completing clerical duties, facilitating office workflow, and assisting customers and physicians within the Imaging department.
Responsibilities
- Greets and assists all customers as needed, providing direction when necessary.
- Answers the telephone using proper telephone etiquette.
- Assists with distribution of patient preps and screenings, and places courtesy calls to patients.
- Prepares all correspondence for physician offices and other institutions, including necessary release forms.
- Burns CDs and prints/copies radiologic images.
- Faxes reports to physician offices.
- Assists physicians and other staff with HIS/RIS/PACS systems.
- Facilitates internal communication with various departments.
- Delivers and retrieves requests from technologist/radiologist offices, reading rooms, or work areas.
- Delivers imaging department mail and directs phone calls to appropriate locations.
- Maintains work station in optimum condition and ensures adequate office supplies are available.
- Reports malfunctions to supervisor and implements downtime procedures when necessary.
- Initiates established downtime procedures during HIS/RIS and PACS downtime.
- Receives and imports outside mammography for interpretation by radiologists, including films from all facilities.
- Maintains critical results/call reports work list in the PACS system and contacts ordering physicians with results, ensuring proper documentation.
- Attends department meetings or reviews minutes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or higher level of education.
- Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, and sound judgment.
- Ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics to a wide and diverse audience.
- Basic working knowledge of computers and office equipment (e.g., copier, fax machine).
- Proficient keyboarding skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous clerical experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but serves as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
Work Environment
- Effective March 2020 or during a pandemic: goggles, face shield, and mask are required according to CDC guidelines.
- Lift assistance (2-person) and/or transfer device is required for lifts exceeding 50 lbs.
- Exposure to various physical conditions, including occasional extreme heat, confined spaces, and mechanical hazards.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as eye protection, hand protection, and hearing protection may be required.
- Potential exposure to blood/body fluids, chemicals, non-ionizing radiation, and ionizing radiation.
Physical Demands
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, sitting, and keyboard/computer operation.
- Occasional twisting/turning, reaching above shoulder level, and pushing/pulling objects.
- Lifting requirements (with assistance for weights over 50 lbs):
- Floor to knuckle: Occasionally
- Seat pan to knuckle: Occasionally
- Knuckle to shoulder: Occasionally
- Shoulder to overhead: Occasionally
- May require rotating shifts, on-call duties, overtime, and travel between system locations.
Schedule
- Scheduled based on operational need, including rotating shifts, standby, and on-call.
- May include 8-hour, 10-12 hour shifts, overtime, and local travel between system locations.
